Guilt

Hanging
around my neck
on a golden string
as old as my first word

I carry
a haunting collection
of abandoned thoughts
and distressing silences

which hold me
responsible
for turning mornings
into storms.

  1. These kind of necklaces can never feel comfortable! I say toss that necklace away!

  2. Hmmm..I can relate to this one. Tis part of the human condition. Robyn is right..Toss it before it strangles you.

  3. Such a wonderful concept that our first words and daily thoughts are strung on a necklace. Very thought provoking. Thank you for joining in!

Interesting expression of guilt. Concise and powerful.

  5. Guilt has a way of hanging on...I remember a Star Trek movie where Spock compared damning evidence to a pair of Tiberian bats hanging about the neck. Guilt isn't much different...and it lingers. Your poignant poem made me think of that.
