April 19

Gathered in the yard
the women of my family
told the wind their sorrows.

How little my angst sounded
compared to theirs,
how little we all looked

lying among the stars.
We washed our feet
in one another's tears

a promise upon our lips -
to dance around sadness
wearing brave hearts.

There's such communion in this humble gathering -- most so for affirming that "dance around sadness / wearing brave hearts." Its a great metaphor for what's accomplished at Real Toads.

  8. You produce such a living picture here, with such simple words, of the pattern of lives and relationships, of how we sustain each other and ourselves and fit into the larger patterns at the same time. Just excellent, and also, quite beautiful.

  10. Such a wonderful celebration of sisterhood, burdens shared and each sorrow set in its rightful place among the stars.
