Lacuna Inc.

Wondering whether I would
have you erased if that was a choice.

The elation of nights awake
versus the sad silent months.

The hours spent arguing casual intelligence
and deliberate stupidity.

How much of my grit
would suddenly be lost.

To tell of the person you made me
in the space of fifty-five words.

(Flash 55 Plus challenge over at the Imaginary Garden)

(I couldn't use the Plus word in the text, but I was driven by it. Lacuna Inc. is a fictitious firm in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind where people go to have troubling memories erased)

  2. Arresting questions! (I didn't see that movie - yet.) I don't think I'd want any of it erased.

  3. I think this is a brilliant exploration of the idea of 'lacuna' - a willing erasure - I always think of Tennyson's words: 'It is better to have loved and lost...' If nothing else, it gives rise to amazing poetry.
    Thanks for sharing.

  4. Oh, your first lines speak to me of how I once contemplated the fate of my abuser. I would like awake at night wondering what it would be like to forget (never remember) the agony he tortured me with.

  5. Your opening lines just grabbed me--how many of us have thought that very thing I wonder!
